Role & Team

Interior Architecture M.A. in a two-person team with Marco Smith

Task

Conversion of a small retail space into a meditation and yoga studio with café
Service phases 01-09

Timeline & Scope

July 2022-2023:
Full-time position at FORMWÆNDE, Lüneburg
Project location: Lüneburg

Tools

Vectorworks, Procreate, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office

Challenge

In the heart of Lüneburg, a small, narrow and poorly lit retail unit that had changed operators several times over the years was to be transformed into a lasting place of retreat: a meditation and yoga studio with an integrated café.

Concept

01

Spatial Organization

A complete restructuring of the dark, elongated floor plan created a clear, flexible layout with several rooms that can be split into two separate units when needed.

02

Staged Journey

Guests move from the lively pedestrian street through a bright, atmospheric tunnel and gradually arrive in the quiet, intimate practice room.

03

Integrated Functionality

All essential functions are integrated unobtrusively into the design and support a calm, focused experience.

04

Sensory Materiality

The material and color palette is gradually reduced – from light oak, stone and linoleum to oak parquet and soft sky blue, culminating in a consistently warm, gentle naturalness.

Realization

My Mind Studio – a place of retreat in Lüneburg.
Realized as part of my work as an Interior Architecture M.A. at FORMWÆNDE.

Results & Learnings

What emerged from a dark, narrow retail space with years of tenant turnover is a genuine place of retreat.
01

A Gentle Shift in Focus

Guests move from the busy pedestrian street through the café and tunnel in a gradual transition from outside to inside, arriving gently in a calm, intimate atmosphere.

02

Reduction Creates Atmosphere

The gradual reduction of materials and colors creates a warm, soft and sensual atmosphere that encourages calm, focus and inner calm.

03

A Viable Long-Term Future

The clear spatial structure and flexible layout created a future-proof property that finally brought stability after years of changing operators.

04

Historic Quality Continued

The design quality of the historic facade was carried respectfully into the interior through a contemporary yet respectful fit-out that honors the building's medieval fabric.

My Mind Studio shows that less can be more – a pared-back space that quiets everyday life and opens the senses.
