Challenge

In the former riding stable of Kloster Holzen, with its monumental columns and historic vaults, the existing hospitality space was to be redesigned. The venue, repurposed in 2011, needed to retain its strong historic identity while introducing a modern, elegant, and welcoming atmosphere for dining and events.

Concept & Realization

01

Historic Substance Preserved

The monumental columns and historic vaults remained fully preserved in their original substance and continue to form the architectural backbone of the space.

02

Precise Custom Fabrication

Each column was individually surveyed and refined with custom-made cladding - a precise custom solution connecting historic substance with modern functionality.

03

Restoration & Built-ins

Extensive repair and restoration work was carried out on the building fabric and existing fixtures. High-quality built-in furniture, including concealed buffet storage, plus the redesigned bar with a carefully crafted back bar, blends harmoniously with the historic architecture.

04

Flexible Furnishing & Built-ins

Loose, flexible furnishing and equipment, combined with high-quality built-ins, make the hall equally suitable for banquets, weddings and everyday gastronomy - durable, comfortable and unobtrusive.

Results & Insights

From a former riding stable with monumental columns and historic vaults, an elegant, versatile event and gastronomy venue has emerged.
01

Historic Soul Lives On

The monumental columns and vaults stand out after restoration and create the space's distinctive, storied identity.

02

Elegant, Cohesive Atmosphere

Through reduced materiality, a warm lighting concept, and the careful redesign of the bar area with back bar, the interior gained an inviting, festive, and at the same time calm atmosphere.

03

Versatile Usability

The combination of high-quality built-ins (including buffet storage) and flexible furnishings makes the hall equally suited to weddings, banquets, conferences, and upscale dining - durable and comfortable.

The Banquet Hall at the Monastery Inn proves that with respect for historic substance and precise contemporary design, a space can preserve its soul while telling new, modern stories.
